In 2022, CSIRO and the US National Science Foundation established a memorandum of understanding to establish multiple pathways for expanding and deepening research collaborations between the US and Australia. Like CSIRO, the NSF has fuelled discoveries and innovations, which have improved lives. By supporting both curiosity-driven research and solutions-oriented work, the NSF empowers researchers to make giant leaps forward in discovery, redefining the boundaries of science, and making the world a better place for everyone.
The National Science Foundation Global Centers Program.
CSIRO along with the National Science Foundation (NSF), Canada (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC); the United Kingdom (UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) are joining forces on a true multi-lateral science partnership that unites leading research institutions across the globe to solve shared challenges on Climate Change and Clean Energy.
Australian-based applicants need to consult the CSIRO Global Centers: Use-Inspired Research Addressing Global Challenges in Climate Change and Clean Energy Program Guidelines April 2023 PDF (404 KB) for additional requirements specific to Australian-based applicants.
Global Centers program support
Australia's participation (via CSIRO) in the Global Centers program is supported by the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF).
CSIRO and the NSF Convergence Accelerator
CSIRO is working with the NSF Convergence Accelerator with the aim to accelerate use-inspired convergence research in areas of national importance and societal challenges, and to initiate convergence team-building capacity around exploratory, potentially high-risk proposals addressing selected convergent research topics.
CSIRO - NSF AI Research Collaboration Program
CSIRO and NSF are joining to support bilateral research collaborations that have the potential to deliver transformative findings in the area of Responsible AI and Equitable AI. Together we seek to extend current ethical and responsible use and development of AI research and to jointly identify new pathways to improve our understanding, deployment, and development of solutions.
