We have a long and successful history in understanding complex diseases in humans. Through our research we investigate the transfer of disease from animals to humans, how to tackle infectious diseases like COVID-19, as well as discovering new ways of detecting disease in the human body.

The Immune Resilience Future Science Platform
The COVID-19 pandemic is accelerating our understanding of the immune systems in both humans and animals. The Immune Resilience Future Science Platform will focus on new and emerging science that will provide an even deeper understanding of these systems, so we can modulate and harness immune responses to diseases, enabling better protection and swifter responses to emerging health threats.
More than 70 per cent of emerging diseases are zoonotic in nature – passing from animals to people – such as SARS, MERS and COVID-19. Our unique expertise works to minimise the impact of costly infectious disease outbreaks.
Our scientists are studying mosquitoes and other insects that carry and transmit disease causing viruses. This will help improve our knowledge on the viruses they carry, how they develop immunity against them and how to best prevent or manage these human and animal health threats.
