“We're pleased to be forging a deep strategic partnership with CSIRO as part of Microsoft's mission to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more. This partnership also aligns with Microsoft's sustainability commitments and pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030, carbon negative by 2050.”
— Steven Worrall, Managing Director, Microsoft Australia
CSIRO and Microsoft have long engaged in a strategic research partnership with a mutual desire to drive corporate social responsibility, tackle global challenges, and bring deep and lasting impacts to Australian organisations, communities, and the environment.
One of the cornerstone work programs of the partnership was designed to accelerate critical research that uses AI and machine learning to tackle illegal fishing, target marine debris and equip farmers with digital insights to improve decision making on soil condition, crop growth and broader farm management processes.
Your innovation and capability partner
“CSIRO’s Company Creation model helped us unlock rapid growth, from foundation to national launch in eight months, by enabling access to their world-leading scientists and an expansive network of expertise. The ability to draw upon the best food, nutrition and sustainability science helped us create a sustainable and nutritious product with unmatched texture and flavour in a short amount of time.”
— Nick Hazell, CEO and Founder, v2food
Australian plant-based food company v2food was created as a collaboration between leading CSIRO scientists and partners Competitive Foods and Main Sequence Ventures – CSIRO’s Innovation Fund - to develop sustainable plant-based meat alternatives to meet growing market demand.
The start-up is now in a period of significant growth, raising $77m in series B funding with plans to open a new $20m factory and move into the petrol and convenience channel after just six months in the retail market.
v2food was formed under our bespoke ‘company creation’ model, which rapidly delivers transformational technologies to address significant market opportunities. By engaging in an early partnership with a large value chain partner and facilitating co-development with them, this way of working enabled rapid prototyping and reduced commercial risk.
